Guest Speaker for College Students

I have had the pleasure of having Kim Malone speak with my Introduction to Social Work students at Mount Mary University.  All of the students found her engaging and knowledgeable.  She took the time with each of them to answer any and all questions they had in a kind, patient manner. Kim delivers a very realistic, authentic and insightful message about social work and the criminal justice system.  Her years of experience and warm nature draws people in to what she has to say.   Kim, with her multiple years in this field, knows what it takes to help youth turn the tables and make a change for the better.  She loves working with youth and young adults and would be a great addition to any platform that decides to have her a part.

Restorative Mindset Teacher

Kim Malone’s presentations are highly-engaging and transforming for students. Kim relays her experiences with patience and care. She guides the students to gain understanding of not only other teens, but also encourages students to apply a new understanding of their own lives—the results of their own experiences and decisions. Kim helps students realize that they are not simply passive observers in their own lives and in others, but that they are—that they need to be—active participants in their lives. It’s truly remarkable. Kim is so inspiring; she is the kind of person that motivates people around her to be at their best—students and adults alike. She makes sense of the chaotic nature in life and provides a clear, direct path to success.

Healthy Relationships Teacher

Thank you for agreeing to be an integral part of the virtual presentation for Relationships class on sexual assault and dating violence.  I felt this a mandatory lesson to teach students and did not know how to bring forth this sensitive topic virtually.  I appreciate your being excited, taking the time, effort and follow through in successfully reaching gracefully, yet candidly this topic. Students’ feedback included “shocking, truthful, everyone should know this”.

Career Academy Teacher

Kim’s message is thought provoking and real.  She believes in her heart that young people can make good choices.  Students enjoy listening to the life lessons she shares and immediately ask, “When can she come back?

As a mother of five sons, I have faced a number of obstacles but nothing was as challenging as when my son, who suffers with a bipolar disorder, became a part of the judicial system. I thought I would go crazy until I was referred to Reality Check By Kim. Ms. Malone, the founder, was hands-on in assisting us as we worked to navigate my son through his incarceration and a successful parole process. Ms. Malone’s prior work experience, coupled with her desire and dedication to help her community, proved to be a dynamic combination and blessing to me and my son.

Organizations

Power 5 AAU Basketball Team

Kim’s deep understanding of the criminal justice system has been a literal lifeline for our players who have found themselves caught in legal struggles. I’ve watched her step in with a young man on probation and completely change his trajectory; she didn't just give him a pep talk, she gave him a strategy. Because she truly understands the system, she was able to guide him on exactly how to communicate with his probation officer and how to carry himself around people of authority to ensure he stayed on the right path. Within our AAU program, Kim uses her knowledge to protect our athletes, teaching them how to navigate a complex system that often doesn't give second chances. Her guidance turned a confusing and scary situation into a manageable one, proving that she is committed to these players' success both on the court and in their lives.

Healthy Relationships - Testimonials From Students

I really enjoyed the meeting, she gave us many real life situations that happen everyday and she gave us many tips on how to prevent those things from happening to us. I also really like the poem she read. The videos of her office were also really nice because it gave us a look in her perspective of her job and the things she does everyday.

You did super good! I was very interested in the stories and it caught my attention quick!

You were very well prepared and did an amazing job.

She was very good at explaining everything and she told good stories.

It was a really nice presentation and I was very intrigued and surprised by the real life examples that she gave.

This presentation was the most important and informational that I have seen so far. Especially with the ages of kids in this class this is a very important topic. I really enjoyed this presentation and she was a very serious and professional presenter.

Kim’s course is so creative. It is real, authentic, and engaging. I recommend this course for students and organizations who work with youth. As a mom with kids in elementary, middle, and high school, this is a great tool to help them stop. Think, and make better decisions. Great Work Kim!

Kim this curriculum is awesome. Kids really need this, especially at a young age before they make mistakes. It makes them think about their consequences and what can happen if they don’t stop and think just like you said. Very well thought out and age appropriate for 3rd to 5thgrade. It’s very understandable. Overall, this is what we need in today’s school system.

Dear Ms. Malone,

We didn’t really get to see much of you this year, but during the times when we did see much of you were some amazing times. I feel like you try your best to teach us young people how to choose the right friends, make the right choices, and stay safe all at the same time and place. When you are here and present in our lunchroom, I take everything you say to the heart. Because it is a dangerous life out there and I bet you want nothing but safety for us. Even though this will be our last time together, I will follow everything you said in the world. It’s sad yeah, but at least you taught us some valuable lessons. And what to do and what not to do. You will be loved and missed! HAVE A AMAZING SUMMER!!

Sincerely, Tomia
